Search for POIs Returns Locations in Albany

In certain products when searching for a POI in a particular location, you first select a metropolitan area (such as Chicago or Los Angeles). You next select a POI type (such as Entertainment or Lodgings).

However, if you select All Categories for a metropolitan area and select a specific type of POI (<POI type>), the returned list includes all POIs of the selected type in all metropolitan areas.

When this happens, the returned list begins with the first POI of the selected type in the first metropolitan area (usually Albany or Atlanta). Note: If the same location is listed more than once, the location appears in multiple categories.

To return a shorter, more concise list, always supply the metropolitan area and POI type if possible.

Use the following procedures for other ways to find a location.

You can find a fun places and things to do:

  • In a City.
  • Near Your Current Location.
  • Near Your Destination.

You can also:

  • Find all title locations in a City.
  • Find a Specific type of title location in all Cities.

My Download Stalls and Won't Finish

If your download stalls and won't complete it is likely caused by the lack free memory in your Garmin device.

In Windows you can check for the amount of free memory of your Garmin device by double clicking on "Computer" and then right clicking on "Garmin Nuvi". Then select "Properties" and you'll be shown how much memory is "Free Space". If you see little or no free space your product will not download. You will need as much as 130MB of free space on your Garmin device for the largest title from Spot It Out. Most titles require far less space.

If your device does not have enough free memory you can:

A) Remove unused foreign language voice files from your device. Removing unused foreign language voice files can be done manually or you can download the SpotItOut-Garmin-VoiceMover. The SpotItOut-Garmin-VoiceMover is a small utility that will move unused voice files from your Garmin device and save them into a Folder on your computer. To get the SpotItOut-Garmin-VoiceMover simply click on this link SpotItOut-Garmin-VoiceMover.

Click "SAVE" in the window prompt and follow the prompts. "Garminmovefiles.exe" will appear on your computer. Once you've downloaded "garminmovefiles.exe" double click on it and it will launch a utility that will create a new folder, Spot It Out - Garmin - Backup and then move unused foreign language voice files from your device into the new folder.

If you decide to MANUALLY remove unsed files from your device then, you'll need to be familiar with moving files to and from folders/directories with your computer. We do not recommend you attempting this unless you've moved files between various folders on your computer and are comfortable doing so.

  1. Open your file manager by double-clicking on "Computer".
  2. Double-click on "Garmin nuvi"
  3. Double-click on "Garmin"
  4. Double-click on "Voice"

You'll see a list of files that are used for the GPS Voices. You will notice that Voice files come in pairs with the file name extension of *.sum and *.vpm. Create a Folder on your computer hard drive to save the Voice files you remove from your device. Now you can copy the Voice files you don't frequently use and copy them into the new Folder you created on your computer's hard drive. Once you've completed copying the files you don't want to your computer you can delete them from your Garmine device by highlighting the files and clicking "Delete". Now, go back to your "Computer" and check the amount of Free Space (memory) you have available.

B) Move previously installed Spot It Out products to an SD card to make more room. If you wish to move previously installed Spot It Out products to a SD card follow these instructions - click HERE - and follow instructions.

You can then install your Spot It Out product by using the hyperlink that is in the Email Confirmation you received.
